Call: 2019

With years of international business exposure, Benny has forged his initial career in the business field, spanning Dubai, Paris, and Hong Kong. Now, as a member of the Hong Kong Bar, his primary focus on criminal litigation has enabled him to appear in all levels of courts, both as a sole advocate and as junior counsel.

Benny’s experience in criminal litigation encompasses handling appeals related to narcotics, money laundering, and fraud cases at the Court of Appeal and Court of Final Appeal, as well as participating in jury trials involving drug trafficking offenses, rape, and manslaughter. His proficiency in Magistrates’ courts and conducting criminal and civil appeals in the High Court has earned him instructions across various stages of proceedings.

Benny’s business background, which equips him with a deep understanding of the legal systems and regulations underpinning financial transactions and corporate governance, makes him an asset in commercial civil matters. His relevant advisory experience includes providing written legal opinions to listed companies on contractual disputes, labor relationships, and litigation assessments. Additionally, he has offered written “legal opinions” to corporations on matters related to initial public offerings (IPO) compliance.

Benny’s commitment to equity and inclusion shines through his work with underprivileged groups. His dedication to promoting legal education and valuing human rights is evident in his pursuit of a Master of Laws in Human Rights [LLM(HR)] at the University of Hong Kong, with a particular focus on laws related to mental health and disabilities. Furthermore, he demonstrated his commitment by presenting a published scholarly paper on privacy laws and data protection during the 2019 International Conference on Library and Information Science at National Taiwan Normal University, all while practicing law.

As a trilingual lawyer proficient in English, Chinese, and French, Benny is professionally qualified to conduct legal proceedings verbally or through written pleadings in Hong Kong’s courtroom. His experience representing the interests of clients ranging from individuals with disabilities and foreign asylum seekers to listed corporate clients with diverse ethnic backgrounds further underscores his commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in the legal profession.
